Japan's Producer Price Index rose 6.8% from a year earlier in September 2026, according to official Bank of Japan time-series statistics published alongside the Corporate Goods Price Index release. The annual change compares with 7.6% in the preceding month. The report describes prices charged by producers for goods, not prices paid directly by consumers.

On the Bank of Japan's yen-basis measures, the Export Price Index was 17.9% higher than a year earlier, while the Import Price Index was 24.5% higher. These are annual changes in indexes measured in Japanese yen, not the contract-currency-based month-on-month movements reported separately in the monthly PDF.

The Producer Price Index level was 135.7 on the 2020-base index, against 136.1 in the previous month. Index levels and annual percentage changes describe different comparisons; neither should be substituted for the other.

Producer prices and import costs can inform assessments of supply-chain price pressures. However, the reported figures alone do not establish a change in consumer inflation or predict the Bank of Japan's next policy-rate decision.
